COVID-19 & Africa Kids Fashion Week

With the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) epidemic currently effecting the world, Africa Kids Fashion Week’s Managing Director had released the statement regarding the event happening in June 2020:

“President Cyril Ramaphosa recently declared the outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) a national disaster, encouraging South Africans to not attend events of more than 100 people and to stay away from travel both locally and internationally. Furthermore, he has closed schools until mid April but this could be extended should the situation in our country get worse. He has given us roughly a month to keep healthy while the World Health Organisation says this could go on for six months.

While there is still great uncertainty regarding the virus, we, together with our venue sponsor have made a decision. Africa Kids Fashion Week 2020, at this stage, will go ahead as planned with the dates being 18, 19 and 20 June 2020.

We will however, by the mid April make a final decision on whether or not to postpone the event to later in the year.

We consider this outbreak in a serious light but will continue to welcome new brand partners until we have made our final decision, which we will communicate to you.

We, as a team, have taken precautions needed to protect ourselves and those around us, by working from home thus limiting direct social contact. We might not be able to answer our emails as quick as we use to but given the circumstances, I am sure you will appreciate that we will reply.

We, as a brand, will continue to monitor this health crisis closely and will be in direct contact with officials to ensure we make the right decisions.

In the meantime, we want to encourage designers to use this time to start designing and allow the creative juices to flow freely. Our brand partners are encouraged to still share in our excitement for this event and think creatively about how you are going to represent your brand at the event.

This is indeed a huge defining moment, not only for South Africans but for the world.

Thank you for your understanding. While it is difficult for us, we will still maintain our excitement and passion to present to you a world class event.”
