A most inspiring Christmas Story: Sugarbird®

Perseverance and quick-thinking adaptability is what pushes boundaries, erasing the line between impossible and possible, turning seemingly unreachable dreams into reality. At Sugarbird®, this is how they fly, because as a start up, you need to hustle and take the gap that nobody else is willing to risk taking.

This inspiring gin, founded by Rob Heyns and Nzeka Biyela, started out with the most successful crowd-funding campaign South Africa has ever seen, affectionately making Sugarbird® ‘the peoples’ gin’. True to their nature, they continue to inspire by bringing their delicious fynbos gin to the people in new, colourful and accessible ways.

What better Christmas gift for gin-lovers than delicious Sugarbird® gin-filled baubles to brighten up both tree and glass.

The behind-the-scenes is another story of pure grit. Recently joined by Matt Bresler, as Head of Operations, an unmissable opportunity arose with Makro to bring Sugarbird® Gin Baubles to market for Christmas, pushing boundaries and stretching the team’s capacity to new levels. They managed to design, produce, fill, cap, ribbon, pack, ship and deliver nationwide 160 000 baubles in just 3 weeks – and all done by hand – to put it in perspective – that’s 6.4 tons of gin! This challenge was a greater feat than even these fearless entrepreneurs imagined, as the race against time became a sprint over and around unexpected obstacles – luckily all a little easier to navigate when you have wings and a fearless spirit.

A combination of perseverance, hard-work and innovative thinking, along with the support of family, friends and up to 60 folks from the Cape Flats working through the night for the final week, saw the incredible small business team win once again. This is the stuff legacies are made of.

So, we leave you with one thought this festive season; do big dreams inspire dreamers or do dreamers inspire big dreams? You decide. Just make sure you do so over a glass of your favourite gin, enjoyed any way you like it. Visit http://www.sugarbirdgin.com for some great recipes.
